SAP Functional Analyst – GL

Job Description Summary:

Provides functional expertise in SAP Financial Accounting with a focus on General Ledger (GL) and Month-End Close (MEC) processes. This role partners closely with finance stakeholders and project teams to support, enhance, and optimize SAP solutions that enable accurate financial reporting, efficient close cycles, and compliance with Chevron standards. The analyst plays a key role in MEC-related initiatives, ensuring system alignment with evolving business requirements and delivering reliable financial operations support.

As an SAP Functional Analyst, you will:

Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in SAP Financial Accounting, with deep specialization in General Ledger processes.

Support and enhance Month-End Close (MEC) activities, ensuring system functionality aligns with business timelines and reporting requirements.

Collaborate with finance teams, business users, and IT stakeholders to gather, analyze, and translate business requirements into SAP solutions.

Configure and maintain SAP FI-GL modules, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with accounting standards.

Support MEC-related projects, including process improvements, system enhancements, and automation initiatives.

Troubleshoot and resolve SAP functional issues related to General Ledger and financial close processes.

Perform impact analysis, testing, and validation for system changes, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.

Develop and maintain documentation for configurations, processes, and system changes.

Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., Controlling, SAP Technical, Data teams) to ensure end-to-end integration and data integrity.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline financial close processes and enhance reporting capabilities.

Stay current with SAP best practices and financial systems trends to support ongoing optimization.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Proven experience as an SAP Functional Analyst with strong expertise in SAP FI, specifically General Ledger.

Hands-on experience supporting Month-End Close (MEC) processes in an SAP environment.

Solid understanding of financial accounting principles and reporting requirements.

Experience with SAP configuration and support for FI-GL modules.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Experience working with business stakeholders to translate requirements into system solutions.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience supporting or leading MEC-related transformation or optimization projects.

Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA Finance capabilities.

Experience with financial integrations across SAP modules (e.g., Controlling, Accounts Payable/Receivable).

Exposure to automation or digital finance initiatives.

Strong stakeholder management and consulting skills.

Experience working in a global, matrixed organization.
